Wartburg Lutheran Services sponsors ministries of healing, hospitality and community through partnerships in caring throughout the State of New York. While some of our ministries receive financial support from governmental insurance programs like Medicare and Medicaid, we must also count on the support of our friends and partners in ministry to meet the many unmet and unfunded human needs of the residents in our nursing home facilities, the residents in our very low income senior apartments and the people participating in our meals and home health care programs.
We ask you to consider helping us in any way you can. Wartburg Lutheran Services has been able to provide for our neighbors for 130 years, in prosperous times and in lean times, because of the farsighted generosity of our supporters. Over the past century, we have been remembered by some people when they made their estate plans. Others were able to support us through one time gifts. Still others have generously given to our annual appeals, our formal fundraisers or our holiday gift appeals. Every gift is a big one to us because it means an additional service or program we can provide for the frail elderly and disabled people for whom we care.
Gifts may be made to Wartburg Lutheran Foundation which provides support for all of our ministries. Your gift may be a generic one to support all of our services or you may designate a specific ministry within the Wartburg family to be the beneficiary. You may even designate your gift to support a particular type of service. We would be happy to talk to you about your wishes and the needs we see in the years ahead. Please give us a call. Cash Gifts in the form of checks or money orders are the most common way people choose to support our ministries. You may choose to send a particular amount in a single gift or you may choose to make a multi-year pledge if you want to provide a larger gift.
Property such as real estate, stocks, mutual fund proceeds or other assets of value may also be donated. Donations of appreciated assets may be deductible at full value from your taxes in accordance with current IRS regulations. We suggest that you consult your personal accountant for advice on how to have the gift you are providing also give you the best tax relief possible.
In your Personal Estate Planning, you may want to designate a gift for Wartburg Lutheran Foundation in your will.
Deferred Gifts of other types can be made. If your assets are significant, you may also want to talk to your personal financial advisor about setting up a charitable trust.
Contributions, large and small, are always welcome. We are grateful to all of those people who continue to help us each year.
Yes. People often feel a particular fondness for one or another of our ministries. Your gift can be made and kept in a separate fund restricted for use by a particular ministry or for a particular purpose or program.
Annual Appeal - We find many people choose to support us at the time of our Annual Appeal in the Thanksgiving season. We send a fundraising appeal reminding folks to think about the Wartburg ministries as they make plans for their year-end contributions.
Holiday Gifts – We make a special appeal each year to our local subscribing congregations and other religious institutions to help us secure gifts for our nursing home residents, many of whom have no family or friends.
Special Events – Each year ministries throughout the Wartburg family host special fundraising activities to support those services. This year we are already making plans for special fundraising events to be held to support our ministries in Brooklyn, Delmar and Poughkeepsie. Look for specifics to be posted in the news section of our website or send us an email or a note and we will include you in our mailing for a particular event.
The Garden of Peace at Wartburg Lutheran Home for the Aging in Brooklyn – We have created a special garden to provide a place adjacent to our historic Chapel for peaceful reflection and gratitude. While the Garden provides a lush green quiet space for our residents, it also has a small fountain and reflecting pond surrounded by brick pavers. Each paving brick can be personalized as either a memorial or as a tribute or in celebration of a family or life event. We request a donation of $100 or more for each brick to help defray the cost of engraving and placing the bricks. Your contribution also helps support the overall maintenance of this special garden. Forms for individual bricks are available through our Foundation office.
